I was wrong for listening to other people’s opinions.

Throughout my entire life, I wasn’t a good fit for my surroundings. It started in school when everyone was obsessed with rap and pop culture, soap operas, and other common things, while I was learning about Zen and Dzogchen meditation practices, listening to Verdi’s Requiem, and going to the opera as my go-to place to relax and enjoy. Then, in university, I didn’t fit in, as I wasn’t involved in parties and cool crowds. Instead, I made presentations about Pavarotti and South American Shamanic culture, which were the things that inspired me, rather than Twilight and Ed Sheeran.

When I started to shoot weddings, I was heading in a direction that I enjoyed. However, I once listened to a more established photographer who told me that my direction wasn’t right, and I needed to shoot more mainstream because that’s what people like to see. I was wrong because even though I was able to create a successful studio, I remained unsatisfied and unfulfilled.

It’s only now, after years of following the path others told me to follow, that I’ve realized happiness is not found in making other people happy but in making myself happy instead. If I’m happy, there will always be people who appreciate who I am and what I can do for them.
